i work a lot with the idea of being "feral," and reclaiming that title. as a girl in this western society, there are so many societal expectations that i am to uphold. i work to unlearn the brainwashing of this society that tells me i am supposed to be "prim and proper" at all times, and allow myself to be feral and free. i wrote this song from that place
in the second stanza, i sing, "unearthed from this heart, / wretched free / thrust into a world, unprepared." this line is open to interpretation... is it the girl that is unprepared? or is it the world? who is more powerful?
in the fifth stanza, i sing "the beast of a girl emerges from the woods / our loved ones are buried here / and so are we" in reference to the memories of the people we no longer have in our lives as well as the memories of our past selves. these memories are buried within "the woods": our hearts.
this girl, though, she loses herself within these woods. she finds herself lost among the memories of the people she has lost. in her grief, she asks questions that don't have answers. "where have you been? . . . . where did you go?" "i don't know." no one does.
she loses herself in this grief
lyrics
a beast of a girl, the sneer of a wolf
the beast of a girl emerges from the fog
unearthed from this heart,
wretched free
thrust into a world, unprepared
a beast of a girl, the sneer of a wolf
the beast of a girl, emerges from the fog
the earth beneath her claws, she finds her way here
on the prowl, she lurks in the shadows of my heart
a beast of a girl, the sneer of a wolf
the beast of a girl emerges from the woods
our loved ones are buried here
and so are we
a beast of a girl, a growl comes from her throat
feral and pure, she sings, "i love you"
"i need you"
where have you been? i don't know
where did you go? i don't know
i am lost
i have lost myself within these woods

to play this song, i put my fingers in the "a minor" position on my guitar, and pluck the strings in order. for the second progression, i lift my first finger up, so it is just the middle two strings that are being held down at the second fret.
when the strumming comes in, i am strumming "a minor" and "e minor." when i sing "i don't know," i am strumming an open e
